Nathaniel R. Burger Sr.

HPS namessakes/founders

Nathaniel R. Burger Sr. began teaching mathematics in Magnolia, MS. In 1936 he became principal of Hopewell Vocational School in Covington County. In 1940, he became principal of Eureka High School, which became Rowan High School. He became Rowan’s first principal and served there until his retirement in 1974. It was Burger who suggested the Rowan name.
